Bio: Mid-20th century French painting ranges from post-war modernism to more personal, expressive interpretations of classical subjects such as still life and landscape. Many artists worked with a free brushstroke and an intense colour palette, where form and motif were often secondary to painterly expression and direct visual sensation.
